This piece had two large influences for me. One being housing instability. I faced frequent moves, many times having to move due to violent, unstable people. I feel that the things that “burn a house down” are often almost exclusively due to trauma. The ancestral fire is one that some of us face head on as generational curse (trauma) breakers.
Also, living in California, there were often many rampant wildfires. Which destroys homes for people and animals alike. And wildfires being something that continue to confront more and more human and animal populations.
